Stages of a Construction Project

A construction project is a process like no other which requires planning and segmented execution of the plan to achieve success. To guarantee the overall success of the venture, each stage of construction must be properly executed to establish the strategic framework for the project. Stages of Construction Project

A typical construction project can be divided into the following segments. 

  1. Conception Stage

This stage is also known as the preconstruction stage which involves the initial planning of the project to the development of the idea into paperwork. This stage involves the drawing of the planned house on a blueprint by the architects. The planners also calculate the approximate budget. 

  1.  Pre-Construction Stage

This stage involves the identification of the contractor to undertake the project. The stage involves developing a team to ensure that the project is complete. This includes developing a team of contract administrators, project managers, supervisors, field engineers, and health and safety managers. In addition, procurement of materials, equipment, and workforce is done at this stage. 

  1. Sitework 

Once the site for the proposed project has been identified, the construction project embarks on preparing the site for developing the project. These activities include breaking the ground through digging or drilling for a foundation and footings, preparing passages for the machinery, and developing amenities like supplying electricity and water. 

  1. Rough framing

This stage forms the most important part of developing the building. it involves laying the skeleton of the building including the structural steel, the concrete for the floors, and the foundation and footings. This gives the building the vertical look. 

  1.  Exterior construction

This stage develops the building by sealing it off from the elements like rainwater and other environmental conditions. This stage involves installing the windows, doors, siding, and roofing among other finishes. By this stage, the building has taken its shape and is almost complete. 

  1. Post-Construction

The post-construction stage involves the addition of final finishes and fixtures to the building. This involves the installation of electricity, plumbing, drainage, and other amenities to the building. in addition, it also involves the inspection of the whole project by the developer or the supervisor.
